Introduction
CBD or Cannabidiol is a phyto-cannabinoid, one of 113 Phyto-cannabinoids, 100 Terpenes and 40 Flavonoids, found in the resin of the Cannabis hemp plant. Based on 1000s of anecdotal and an ever growing body of scientific evidence, Cannabis CBD+200 have given relief for people suffering from a variety of illness, discomfort and disease including inflammation, chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, arthritis, depression, alcoholism, diabetes, PTSD, epilepsy, psychosis, seizure, spasms, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, antibiotic-resistant infections, and other neurological disorders. CBD+200 has demonstrated neuro-protective and neurogenic effects, and it's anti-cancer properties are currently being investigated at several research centers around the world. Further evidence suggests that CBD is safe with little side-effect even at high dose. (see www.projectcbd.org)
CBD is an acronym for Cannabidiol. The recent discovery of the medical benefit of CBD is nothing short of miraculous. Children with Dravites Syndrome, the horrible epileptic disease that puts normal children into a catatonic state, have been relived of the debilitating effects of the disease within hours of CBD ingestion (with no side effects) bringing tears of joy to their astonished parents.
How Does CBD Effect ECS?
CBD is one of over 200 chemical compounds, called Phyto-cannabinoids, that make up the resinous trichomes on flowers and leaves of Cannabis hemp. Cannabis trichomes are the sticky resin surrounding the white pistillate flowers and leaves of female plants. For some reason, which is not clearly understood by science, those 113 compounds (plus terpenes and flavonoids) mimic our own Endo-cannabinoid compounds (i.e. anandamide) of the endo-cannabinoid system, which is an important cell signaling or cell messaging system found in all mammals, we humans included.
The endo-cannabinoid system (ECS) in mammals is a bio-chemical messaging system uniting all the cells of your body to function according to the needs of your body. Cells receive messages in the form of endo-cannabinoids from the blood that bind to receptors and cause the cell to take some type of action, for example to decompose if another new cell is replacing it.
How Did CBD Gain Such Fast Recognition?
CBD became international news when Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN Medical Correspondent did a documentary about Charlotte Figi, a 5 year old that had been suffering with Dravites Syndrome since age two. Charlotte had been near death twice and mostly catatonic after being a cheerful fully functioning toddler. Her mother, after hearing about another boy who had success using CBD, decided to give it a try and purchased a high CBD strain from a dispensary and rendered it to CBD Oil using Rick Simpsons method (yeah Canada). Her CBD preparation had an immediate effect and Charlotte's seizures were reduced from 50 per day to 3 per week. This miracle, so to speak, would have gone virtually unnoticed had it not been for CNN. Dr. Gupta's documentary which changed the minds of many many people formerly opposed to Medical Cannabis and Dr Gupta's documentary has become the turning point to finally end Cannabis prohibition.......thank you Dr. Gupta .......and thank you Charlotte.
Updated 2020: Since I wrote this post I have learned that Charlotte has passed away due to complications related to Covid 19. We can be thankful that she was able to live a reasonably normal life with her amazing parents and that all who suffer less due to the now wide use of cannabinoids can be thankful for her short yet courageous life.
